Holašovice

How did people used to live in South Bohemia?

Holašovice

Holašovice is a unique village in the South Bohemian Region, famous for its exceptionally well-preserved rural Baroque architecture. It is located about 15 km west of České Budějovice and has been listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1998. The village is dominated by a spacious village green lined with more than twenty farmsteads featuring typical gables from the 18th and 19th centuries, representing the pinnacle of rural building tradition. Holašovice resembles an open-air museum, yet it is a living village where people still live and farm.

The village is not just a historical site, but also a place with a rich cultural life. Every year, the Village Festival takes place here, celebrating folk traditions, crafts, and folklore – in 2025 it will be held from July 26 to 28. Visitors can look forward to demonstrations of traditional crafts, tastings of regional specialties, and accompanying musical performances. Holašovice is thus not only a showcase of rural beauty, but also an authentic testimony to the cultural heritage of the South Bohemian countryside, which has preserved its uniqueness and atmosphere for centuries.
