Kratochvíle Castle

Kratochvíle Castle is a Renaissance gem hidden in a picturesque landscape near Netolice in the South Bohemian Region. It was built between 1583 and 1589 by Vilém of Rožmberk as a hunting lodge and a place of relaxation. The design was inspired by Italian villas, which is reflected not only in the architecture but also in the overall atmosphere – a low building with arcades, surrounded by a moat and a symmetrical garden, exudes calm and elegance. Inside, visitors admire the rich fresco decorations featuring both mythological and religious motifs, which create an effect almost like an art gallery.

Today, Kratochvíle Castle is open to the public and offers not only tours of its magnificent halls but also cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions. The site is popular among lovers of romantic walks and historic architecture. In the past, it also housed a museum of animated film, which delighted both children and adults. Kratochvíle is an ideal destination for those who wish to combine the beauty of Renaissance art with the peaceful atmosphere of the South Bohemian countryside.
