Červená Lhota Castle

Červená Lhota Castle

Literally a fairytale setting

Červená Lhota Castle

Červená Lhota Castle is one of the most romantic and most photographed landmarks in the Czech Republic. Its characteristic red façade is reflected in the waters of the castle pond, creating a fairytale scenery that enchants visitors at first sight. Originally a Gothic fortress, it was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century and over the years underwent Baroque and Neo-Gothic modifications. The castle stands on a rock in the middle of the water and is connected to the mainland by a picturesque stone bridge. Its interiors are furnished in the style of 19th-century noble living, and during tours, visitors get a glimpse into the life of its last owners – the Schönburg-Hartenstein family.

Červená Lhota is a popular destination not only for its beauty but also for its cultural events and leisure opportunities. During the summer season, concerts, theatrical performances, and weddings take place here. Visitors can take a boat ride on the pond, walk along the surrounding trails, or enjoy a picnic in the castle park. The castle has also served as a backdrop for many films and fairy tales, including the well-known “Zlatovláska.” It is located near Kardašova Řečice and is an ideal spot for a romantic getaway in the heart of South Bohemia.
