Blanský Forest is a protected landscape area in the South Bohemian Region, representing one of the best-preserved natural areas in South Bohemia. It stretches between Český Krumlov, České Budějovice, and Prachatice, and is composed of a diverse mosaic of dense forests, meadows, rocky ridges, and historical monuments. The highest peak is Mount Kleť (1,084 m / 3,556 ft above sea level), offering stunning panoramic views of the Šumava Mountains, the Novohradské Mountains, and, on clear days, even the Alps. At its summit, visitors will find the oldest stone observation tower in the Czech Republic and an observatory, which are popular destinations for tourists and school trips alike.
Blanský Forest is a place of exceptional biological diversity – home to rare plant and animal species such as Eurasian eagle-owls, black storks, and longhorn beetles. The landscape is crisscrossed by a network of hiking and cycling trails that pass through dense forests, around ponds, and through picturesque villages with traditional architecture. Attractive stops include the ruins of Dívčí Kámen, the historic town of Holubov, Zlatá Koruna Monastery, and, of course, the climb to Mount Kleť. Blanský Forest is an ideal destination for those seeking peace, natural beauty, and a chance to recharge in the quiet away from the main tourist routes.
