The ascent of Mount Kleť (1,084 m above sea level) is one of the most popular trips in South Bohemia, not only because of the stunning views but also due to interesting stops along the way. The summit is located in the Blanský Forest Protected Landscape Area, about 6 km from Český Krumlov. The most common starting points are the villages of Krasetín or Holubov, from where a marked hiking trail leads through the forest and along paved paths. The ascent is suitable for families with children and experienced cyclists, and those who want to save energy can take the chairlift from Krasetín, which is the oldest chairlift in the Czech Republic.
At the top of Mount Kleť, visitors will find several attractions – most notably the stone observation tower from 1825, which offers panoramic views of the Šumava, Novohradské Mountains, and on clear days, even the Alps. Next to it is the observatory, the highest astronomical facility in the Czech Republic, which offers guided tours and sky observations. There is also the Kleť mountain hut with refreshments, where you can rest after the climb. The entire trip to Kleť combines beautiful nature, history, and physical activity – an ideal suggestion for a full-day outing for anyone who enjoys hikes with a rewarding view.
