The Regent Brewery in Třeboň is one of the oldest breweries in the Czech Republic, with a history dating back to 1379, when the town of Třeboň obtained the right to brew beer. The brewery was gradually expanded and modernized, experiencing significant growth especially under the rule of the Rožmberk family. Its current name honors Regent Jakub Krčín of Jelčany, an important administrator of the Třeboň estate and the founder of many fishponds in the area. Beer is brewed here in the traditional way according to original recipes, with a focus on high-quality ingredients and artisanal methods.
The brewery offers visitors the opportunity to take a tour, during which they can explore the production areas, the malt house, and the historic cellars where the beer matures. The tour is complemented by explanations about the brewery’s history, the beer brewing process, and, of course, a tasting of local beer specialties. Interestingly, part of the tour also passes through the brewery courtyard, which hosts cultural and musical events. A visit to the Regent Brewery is therefore a wonderful way to combine learning about history with tasting traditional Czech beer.
