A Walk into the Past

Schwarzenberská hrobka v Třeboni

The Schwarzenberg Tomb in Třeboň is an important Neo-Gothic monument, located in the picturesque setting of a park by Lake Svět. It was built between 1874 and 1877 at the request of Princess Eleonora of Schwarzenberg as a family mausoleum. Architecturally, the tomb is inspired by Gothic churches and impresses with its symmetry, twin-towered façade, and rich stone decoration. In the crypt beneath the chapel, 26 members of the Schwarzenberg family are interred, including prominent figures who contributed to the development of the region.

The interior of the tomb is open to the public through guided tours, which introduce visitors not only to the architecture and artistic details of the building but also to the history of the Schwarzenberg family and their influence on Třeboň and the surrounding area. The walk to the tomb passes through a beautiful English-style park, offering a peaceful place for reflection and discovery. The entire site exudes a dignified atmosphere and is a popular stop both for history enthusiasts and for those seeking a spiritual experience in the quiet of nature.
